It's been a long time since we last blogged (due to building our bonsai garden 'Hakaru-en')...
Having redesigned our website, I thought it high time we get back into it. Hoping to post semi-regularly with what we're up to on the tree design front.
To kick things off, the below are a few videos I took at the World Bonsai Conference in Saitama for some inspiration. Stay tuned for some exciting tree design/re-design content coming soon...
First up we have have a beautiful black pine from Takamatsu, a long time personal fav, this was on display in the vendor area. As it was late spring, the extending candles made the tree feel as if it were almost covered in snow. This is 'kotobuki' black pine, hence the very short needles and dense branching throughout. A fantastic variety for sure.
Above we have a very famous akamatsu, re-designed through compression by Kimura a few years prior. The sheer power and insane depth of the bark fissures leaves you speechless when you're in its presence.
This captures the essence of why I love white pine. The rugged deadwood against the beauty of goyomatsu foliage, a fantastic double trunk of contrasting elegance/strength.
Another personal favourite, I've always loved the hollow, snake-like trunk of this red pine. Another by Kimura, a tree that can teach you many a technique through studying it.
Thanks for checking out the new site, Adrian
